Blanket

How do you like your blanket and mattress and pillow? Is there a formula you use to ensure the most optimal rest? Do you need them to have the perfect sleep? Do you bring your own supplies when you leave for an overnight trip?

I have slept on memory foam and tempur pedic beds before. First time I saw the tempurpedic bed I thought it was soft so I was going to do a belly flop on it. Turns out it was not a pleasant cushion. But still comfortable to sleep in.

This is not a sponsored advertisement and is merely my opinion.

I definitely felt like I was sinking into the tempurpedic bed. Memory foam does feel nice though. The bed I have at home is just a regular one with springs. A hand me down. I am content with it. I fall asleep anywhere and the bed is good enough. I sleep soundly and deeply each night.

I like hotel trips because they can have large puffy goose down blankets and they feel awesome. And I feel awesome. They also have puffy pillows but once they settle they still elevate my head. Sometimes the rooms come with four puffy pillows and it’s awesome to feel surrounded by them but it’s enough for me to sleep on one pillow unless its two flat pillows put together.

If it doesn’t meet your personal optimal standards, can you still get a good night’s rest? I know people who hate sleeping anywhere else but their own bed. I know people who would drive in a blizzard from work to sleep in their own beds at home.

It feels weird when I have a flat pillow and I feel like my head is on the bed instead. The blanket is like a windbreaker because you can have the AC up but not really feel it through the blanket and it can still trap my body heat in.

It can be the hottest day of the summer and I will still have a light blanket on the side of my bed or even on a part of my body.

I think perhaps the reason we need a blanket is that ever since we were infants, we have been swaddled and that’s why most grow up to sleep with a blanket despite the temperature.

I have had a stiff mattress before. Mentally, it feels uninviting. Just a solid block. So is sleeping on a stiff pillow. It's not very comfortable if you are someone who sleeps on their sides. I have also slept on a bamboo mat on a metal bunk bed for two weeks before. Highly/extremely uncomfortable to say the least. Had to put towels underneath to ease the bones. Luckily, I was so tired by the end of the night that I would just pass out before my head hit the pillow. It was the middle of summer in Beijing and we only had a fan in the room. I didn't really experience the heat so much while I slept because I would just pass out from exhaustion after a shower. Yes I also had a blanket balled up next to me in the off chance I get a little bit cold during the night.

In the winter time, I just layer up on blankets and clothes. I also get cold easily. I thought of buying a new heat trapping blanket or even an electric heater blanket but my logic is that my mom’s house has so many blankets of various materials; might as well put them to use instead of buying something new. Have you tried a weighted blanket? I have not. The other day I wore my friend's windbreaker pants and they were beautifully warm haha on a windy day. I may consider buying a pair for the upcoming winter season. I definitely don't dress smart but I also don't spend that much time outdoors that I would need these kinds of clothes in the closet.

Do you have blankets that save your life in the winter/summer season? How many pillows do you need? Do you need them to have the perfect sleep?
